There’s a feeling you get the moment you meet the Trail’s End family. It’s in the welcoming smiles, the genuine interest in learning about your child and your family, and the passion with which we speak about camp. Almost instantly, you know your child will be safe, supported, and truly cared for.
Trail’s End is built on generations of leadership, love, and dedication. The relationships we form with our families matter deeply to us, and we take great pride in earning your trust year after year.
Rona & Marc Honigfeld
Today, Trail’s End is led by Rona and Marc Honigfeld, Directors, continuing the camp’s tradition of thoughtful, relationship-driven leadership while guiding Trail’s End forward with care, intention, and heart.
Their daughter, Kylie Honigfeld, serves as an Assistant Director, representing the next generation of leadership and a lifelong connection to Trail’s End. Alongside an experienced and dedicated leadership team, they work collaboratively to ensure every camper feels known, supported, and celebrated.
Their other daughter, Mackenna Honigfeld, while not a full-time member of the camp staff, remains deeply connected to Trail’s End. Born at camp and often present throughout the summer, Mackenna is very much a part of the Trail’s End family — a reflection of what makes camp feel like home.
While the Honigfeld family provides the foundation, Trail’s End is strengthened every day by an extraordinary team of leaders who share the same values, passion, and commitment to our campers and families. This extended TEC family brings experience, heart, and care to every part of camp life — working together to ensure each camper feels supported, celebrated, and truly known.
From the first hello — or the first warm embrace — to the final day of summer, our team is deeply committed to creating an environment where campers feel safe, supported, and inspired to grow. At Trail’s End, children build confidence, form lifelong friendships, and discover a true sense of belonging — all while being encouraged to be exactly who they are.
We are honored to partner with our families in this journey. Together, we help each child develop independence, resilience, and meaningful connections that extend well beyond the summer months. The impact of a Trail’s End summer doesn’t end when camp does — it lives on in the friendships, values, and special summer moments we carry with us as we leave Beach Lake, taking a piece of Trail’s End home in our hearts.

The Legacy of Starr & Stan Goldberg
For more than six decades, Starr and Stan Goldberg helped shape the heart and soul of Trail’s End.
Stan, a legendary camp director — and more importantly, a legendary human being — passed away in May 2025. At that time, Starr retired after a lifetime of service. While they are no longer leading camp day to day, their values, spirit, and influence remain deeply woven into the fabric of Trail’s End.
Stan was inducted into the American Camp Association’s Legends in Camping in 2010, recognizing the extraordinary impact he had on the camp world. More importantly, he taught all of us the importance of building deep, meaningful relationships — with campers and their families, and with our staff. That commitment to connection and care continues to guide Trail’s End today.
Starr was always right by Stan’s side, supporting him every step of the way, while also serving as a strong and respected leader in her own right. Together, they formed a true partnership — a power couple who led Trail’s End with heart, integrity, and vision. They guided the camp in a non-ownership role beginning in the 1960s, and in 1986 had the good fortune of purchasing Trail’s End from the Laub family.
Their shared leadership shaped a culture rooted in family, relationships, and trust — a legacy that lives on in every camper, staff member, and family who calls Trail’s End home.
Starr and Stan have called Trail’s End their summer home for over 50 years. Born and raised in Brooklyn, Starr and Stan were childhood sweethearts.
A physical education graduate of NYU, Stan started at Trail’s End in 1960 as a bunk counselor. After a brief time as Group Leader and Waterfront Director, Stan became the Boys’ Head Counselor in 1967 and served in this role for 20 years. He called this position his “dream job.” In 1986, Stan and Starr were fortunate enough to purchase Trail’s End from the Laub family.
Starr’s career at TEC started in 1964 as a counselor. She then worked as the office manager. Although Starr did not hold a formal position while she raised their two daughters, Rona and Rori, Trail’s End was always a part of her life while she supported Stan along the way. Today Starr plays an important role with the campers as the Grandma figure in their lives. Her loving nature and warm personality are felt throughout camp.
Starr and Stan’s impact on the lives of countless TEC campers and staff has been remarkable. In 2010, Stan received the American Camp Association’s Legends of Camping Award, which recognized his lifelong dedication to the world of camping. What began as one summer quickly became something far more meaningful. After serving as a Pioneer Group Leader and later as Boys Head Counselor, Zach joined the year-round leadership team as Assistant Director, where he oversees the boys campus, including both campers and staff.
Zach grew up in Bellmore, New York, and earned his Bachelor’s degree in Physical and Health Education from the University of Georgia. He went on to complete his Ph.D. in Human Performance at the University of Alabama. During the year, Zach works as the Lane-Zimmerman Endowed Professor at Northern Illinois University, where he prepares future physical education teachers. His background in education and human performance, combined with his long-standing connection to TEC, allows him to bring a thoughtful, steady presence to campus life.
Outside of camp and work, Zach enjoys being outdoors, running, and spending time near the water with his family. In the fall, he keeps an eye on college football Saturdays—with “Roll Tide” proudly counting among McKinley and Lincoln’s first words.
Assistant Director, Boys
Foster Lattman
Assistant Director – Varsity
With more than a decade at Trail’s End, Foster has grown up alongside the camp community and understands firsthand the powerful role camp plays in shaping young people. Originally from Florida, Foster joined TEC in 2015 after his freshman year of college with little prior sleepaway camp experience and quickly found a place he could call home.
Over the years, Foster has served as a general counselor, group leader, and Head Counselor of Varsity beginning in 2019. After joining Trail’s End full time in 2021, he stepped into the joint role of Assistant Director and Head Counselor in 2023, where he continues to play a key role in shaping the camper and staff experience across camp.
Foster is most passionate about building meaningful relationships with campers and staff and creating an environment where everyone feels supported, connected, and proud to be part of the Trail’s End community. During the off-season, he lives in New York City and looks forward each year to returning to camp and the people who make it feel like home.
Fun fact: Foster’s only childhood sleepaway camp experience was short-lived after having to miss a baseball tournament—proof that perspectives can definitely change. His favorite camp tradition and activity is Rope Burn.

Sammy Linden
Assistant Director – Varsity and Wellness Coordinator
Sammy’s Trail’s End journey began in 2006, when she arrived at camp as a nine-year-old camper. At Trail’s End, Sammy works primarily with our oldest campers in the Varsity program and specializes in camp-wide wellness, supporting campers and staff alike. Her deep understanding of camper development, combined with her lifelong connection to TEC, makes her an invaluable presence at TEC.
Outside of camp, Sammy lives in New York City with her husband, Matt, and their labradoodle, Booker. An avid reader, she’s always trying to beat her book count from the year before.

Shari Mullen
Assistant Director - Programming
Shari Mullen joined the Trail’s End Camp leadership team in 2014 after first experiencing TEC as a parent when her oldest son, Harrison, became a camper in 2013. What began as a family connection quickly turned into a professional passion, and Shari has been an integral part of the TEC community ever since.
Shari began her Trail’s End career as Tennis Director and has since served in a variety of leadership roles, including Director of Programming, Group Leader for Debs, Lower Rangers, and Upper Rangers, and Head Counselor of the Lower Boys Campus. As Assistant Director of Programming, Shari helps oversee the structure and flow of the camp day, ensuring campers are engaged, supported, and having fun from morning to night.
A graduate of UMass Amherst, Shari previously worked in public relations in Boston before moving to Los Angeles, where she and her husband, Geoff, launched an online art business together. Shari and Geoff now live in Boca Raton, Florida, with their dog, Laker. All three of their children—Harrison, Sam, and Victoria—were TEC campers and counselors, making the Mullens a true Trail’s End family.

Assistant Director, Programming
Jim Ressler
Assistant Director – Head of Program Areas
Jim was brought to camp in 2017 by his colleague and our Assistant Director of Boys, Zach, to serve as our Athletic Director, and he didn’t come alone! He brought along his wife, Mary-Beth, who serves as our Drama Director, and their three sons, Joseph, Matthew and Benjamin. They all quickly became an integral part of the Trail’s End family. In 2018, Jim became our Head of Program Areas, and he now spends his summer leading, training and developing all of our Area Directors.
Jim earned his Bachelors in Physical Education from Baldwin-Wallace College, his Masters in Athletic Administration from Eastern Illinois University, and his Ph.D. in Physical Education Teacher Education from Ohio State University. During the winter, he works as a professor at Northern Illinois University, where he trains future physical education teachers.
When asked why he loves working at Trail’s End, Jim says he loves the people and the unique, daily interactions with the campers and staff. Jim claims the best part of the job is helping new staff grow comfortable at Trail’s End in their role and helping returning staff assume more leadership in their spaces and among their peers.
Assistant Director, Program Areas
Julia Galanti
Assistant Director – Health Center
Julia began her Trail’s End Camp journey in 2015. The Galanti family’s connection to Trail’s End began a year earlier, when Stella came to camp alongside her aunt, Shari Mullen, and her cousins. A Physician Assistant by training, Julia has led the Trail’s End Camp Health Center for over a decade, bringing both professional expertise and deep personal connection to the care of campers and staff. She earned her Bachelor of Arts in Kinesiology with a minor in Psychology from The University of Texas at Austin and completed her Physician Assistant training at Weill Medical College of Cornell University in New York City.
Julia lives in Atlanta, Georgia with her husband, Todd, their children, and their two vizslas, Dozer and Kirk. Outside of camp, she enjoys spending time with her family, playing and watching sports, and traveling.
Assistant Director, Health Center Administrator
Tami Smiler
Assistant Director - Office
Tami’s Trail’s End story began long before her time in the office. She spent her summers at TEC as a counselor in 1994 and 1995—an experience that shaped her lifelong connection to camp.
So when it came time for her own family, the decision was simple. Trail’s End was always going to be home.
Her oldest son, Jake, began his TEC journey in 2015 and is now completing his 12th summer as an Assistant Group Leader. In 2018, Tami officially joined the Trail’s End team when her second son, Dean, arrived at camp, alongside her daughter, Lily, who became a full-time camper the following summer.
With her husband frequently on campus—often refereeing football tournaments—the Smiler family’s presence is felt throughout camp. What began as Tami’s experience has grown into something shared by the entire family.
Tami is a proud graduate of the University of Florida (Go Gators!), where Jake is now continuing the family tradition. The Smilers live in Boca Raton, Florida, and love taking advantage of everything South Florida has to offer.
Fun Fact: Tami’s journey has come full circle—from counselor to parent to leadership team member—now experiencing Trail’s End alongside her own children.
